US EPA Grants Actara® and Platinum® Expanded Labels on Vegetables and Grapes
Greensboro, N.C., June 19, 2007 – Syngenta Crop Protection announced today that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted its Actara® and Platinum® insecticides expanded labels that allow higher application rates and use on additional vegetable and grape crops. State registrations for these expanded rates and uses are pending.
The new crop groups for Actara include fruiting vegetables, cucurbits, leafy vegetables, brassica crops and grapes. For Platinum, leafy vegetables, brassica crops and grapes have been added.
The geographic restriction for Actara in pome fruit has also been removed, allowing it to be used by pome fruit growers in the western part of the United States. For complete information, refer to the products’ labels.
“These products provide excellent insect control, are flexible and long-lasting,” said Coby Long, Syngenta brand manager. “Growers will benefit from the label extensions that allow them to use Actara and Platinum on a broader range of crops.”
Both Actara and Platinum contain the same active ingredient, thiamethoxam, which provides excellent control of many sucking and chewing pests. Actara is a broad-spectrum, foliar-applied insecticide with a unique, trans-stemic mode of action. Its fast-acting, long-lasting formula is easy on beneficials and rainfast as soon as the spray has dried. Platinum is a broad-spectrum, soil-applied insecticide with a systemic mode of action. It is quickly absorbed by roots and then rapidly transported throughout the plant. The product’s unique chemical properties result in long residual activity and consistent control.
“Syngenta is committed to delivering effective crop protection products to growers, including developing new products and new uses for existing chemistries,” Long said. “And we’re proud to back them with a commitment to unsurpassed quality and the support of a knowledgeable and dedicated sales staff.”
